Past Meeting Notes:

Joel Broadbent was very inspirational in his presentations for the past two meetings in April and May. He left us with enough material to create a great life and to last a lifetime.

Don Breckenridge of Sendouts gave a presentation on The Balanced Scorecard at our February meeting. It could be very useful for those who follow up and apply the theories to their desks. The room was much better with carpet and the buffet seems to be back to a higher standard than last fall.
Danny Cahill rocked the house at the Marriott January 18th. Feedback was consistently extremely high. Notes from his presentation are available for members on the Yahoo site via the link on the home page. Now the board's greatest challenge will be to follow our own first annual event.

Mark Berger of SWAT Recruiting has seen all the tools and packages for recruiting and applicant tracking. In addition to presenting tips and tricks for finding passive candidates on the 'net Mark has licensed TRA to provide electronic versions (PDF) of his book "Power Searching for Free Resumes on Google" to all attendees. Thanks to Mark for a very useful program.

Here is the Search string Bill Vick said could be used with Google outside of Linked In to get people on linked in "site:xxx.com (boolean string goes in parentheses)" Type in the stuff between the quote marks but not the quote marks themselves and replace XXX with "linkedin" or any other site. Pay attention to where the spaces are and if this does not work let me know what does.

Now everyone can simply pay the same amount in the easiest manner possible via check ,cash or credit card...in advance or at the door.

Congratulations to the 20 new CPCs listed below and congratulations to everyone involved with the CPC Immersion Certification Class organized by Dennis Gros and TRA. Thank you to NAPS for providing the class.

Call for information on the CPC exam until we post details on the teleconference here.

What it means to be a CPC

Since 1961, the National Association of Personnel Services has been certifying recruiting and staffing professionals nationally. Today, there are more than 10,000 professionals designated as Certified Personnel Consultants (CPC) or Certified Temporary-Staffing Specialists (CTS). Over 300 professionals are dually certified, a trend that continues to grow as the market and demand dictates more blended capabilities. NAPS also has available the first staffing specialty certification designation, the Physician Recruiting Consultant (PRC).

Why certify?

Certification is viewed by the business community and the industry as a seal of excellence. Fortune Magazine reported that one way to choose a recruiter is to ask if they've been certified.

NAPS certification was initially established as a self-regulation vehicle for the staffing industry. Today, along with this, it is the opportunity to expand the professional knowledge base in employment law, changing regulations, best business practices and the highest standards of ethics.

Why continuing education?

It's very important that certified staffing professional stay current with legal, business and related practices. In 1995, NAPS initiated mandatory continuing education for CPCs and CTSs. You must take part in 50 contact hours of professional development or training experiences in each three (3) year period after certification. Visit the various links on this Web site to learn more about this continuing education and how to meet this requirement.
